MediaTek and NVIDIA team up to bring AI to cars

AI has been a pretty hot topic for the past several years, and this year the hype has only gotten stronger with the launch of ChatGPT and Microsoft and Google both battling each other for dominance in the AI space.

We’ve also seen companies work to bring AI to phones, and now it looks like AI will be making its way into cars. This is thanks to a new partnership between MediaTek and NVIDIA where both companies have announced that they will be collaborating to bring AI to the infotainment systems of vehicles.

This will see MediaTek take advantage of NVIDIA’s GPUs and software in their SoCs. This will help to create connected infotainment systems and improve safety functions in cars, allowing MediaTek to create advanced experiences like never before. For example, the car’s dashboard could show what’s around the vehicle, while cameras in the car could be used to monitor the driver.

According to MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai:

“NVIDIA is a world-renowned pioneer and industry leader in AI and computing. With this partnership, our collaborative vision is to provide a global one-stop shop for the automotive industry, designing the next generation of intelligent, always-connected vehicles. Through this special collaboration with NVIDIA, we will together be able to offer a truly unique platform for the compute-intensive, software-defined vehicle of the future.”

NVIDIA’s found and CEO Jensen Huang also added:

“AI and accelerated computing are fueling the transformation of the entire auto industry. The combination of MediaTek’s industry-leading system-on-chip plus NVIDIA’s GPU and AI software technologies will enable new user experiences, enhanced safety and new connected services for all vehicle segments, from luxury to entry-level.”
