Earlier this month, Nothing announced that the Nothing Phone (2) is coming soon. The company stopped short of confirming the date, but now it looks like we know when to expect the phone’s launch.
This is according to an interview that Nothing’s co-founder Carl Pei did with Forbes where he confirmed that the handset would be launching this July. The interview also confirmed that this would be a global launch and that the US market will be included, which is good news as the first-gen Nothing Phone was not officially launched stateside.
In terms of specs, Pei did previously confirm that the handset would be packing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. For those wondering why not use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Pei explained that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 offered a huge leap in performance over the Nothing Phone (1), which used the Snapdragon 778+ 5G, while also keeping it relatively cost effective.
Sure, it would have been nice to see the use of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but keep in mind that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is still a flagship chipset (albeit for 2022’s smartphones), which means that it is still extremely capable so it’s not necessarily a bad thing, especially if it means that the Nothing Phone (2) will be cheaper.
