WhatsApp already protects your conversations with end-to-end encryption. The app even has a feature that unlocks the app when you enter a password or use biometric security, but now it looks like WhatsApp is about to get even more secure and private with a new feature called Chat Lock.
This was announced by Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg where basically you could see this feature as being an extension of the password feature. The current password feature locks the entire app, but if you don’t need to password-protect all of your chats and just need to protect a few, this is where Chat Lock comes in handy.
The feature will lock selected chats behind a password that can only be unlocked either via password or biometrics like your fingerprint or face. This adds an extra layer of security for users who feel that the current password system might not be enough and want to further protect some conversations that are too private for others to view.
It can also be useful where if you’re showing someone your WhatsApp conversations, you can ensure that some chats will not be available to them unless they have your password. The feature should already be live in the latest version of the app, so check it out if you’re interested.
