We get that ads on YouTube can be annoying, but they help creators and businesses (like ourselves) pay the bills. That being said, we know that some of you probably rely on ad blockers to get around these ads, but unfortunately it looks like ad blockers may soon no longer work on YouTube.
This is according to a post on Reddit in which the poster received a popup message informing them that “Ad blockers are not allowed on YouTube”. YouTube has since confirmed to the subreddit moderators that this is indeed real, and that it is currently an experiment that they are running.
This means that if you are using an ad blocker and are watching videos on YouTube, you may not encounter this message. There is also a good chance that this experiment may never roll out to the public, although we suppose you shouldn’t get your hopes up because ads are one of the main ways that companies like Google and YouTube make money.
There is no word on whether or not YouTube will actually implement this feature, but if you have been running ad blockers all this while, maybe you should prepare yourself for the eventuality that it may one day stop working.
