Sony Xperia 1 V debuts with brand new Exmor T camera sensor

0

Last year, Sony launched its flagship Xperia 1 IV smartphone. If you liked what you saw, then you might also be interested to hear that Sony has since followed up with a new flagship model for 2023 which comes in the form of the Sony Xperia 1 V.

In terms of design, it seems that Sony hasn’t really bothered too much on that front and has mostly kept the looks the same as the previous model. It’s not a bad thing if you like the design language, but otherwise it does feel kind of “boring”.

The company has also kept other specs similar, like the 6.5-inch 120Hz display with a 1644×3840 resolution. Under the hood is where the main differences will be. The Xperia 1 V will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and will be accompanied by 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. Sony will also continue to use a 5,000mAh battery with 30W wired charging along with support for wireless and reverse wireless charging.

The more interesting stuff is actually on the cameras for the phone. With the Xperia 1 V, Sony has debuted a brand new sensor called the Exmor T for mobile. The company claims that this stacked CMOS sensor will allow for better low-light photography, as well as offer up richer and more accurate colors in photographs.

The new sensor also measures 1/1.35-inch, which is 70% larger than what its predecessor had, which is also what presumably helps with the better low-light photography. The phone comes equipped with three lenses on the back, with the main camera sporting a 48MP sensor with an aperture of f/1.9, which is also accompanied by a 12MP f/2.3 85mm telephoto lens and a 12MP f/2.2 16mm ultrawide. On the front there will be a 12MP wide lens with HDR and 4K video recording support of up to 30fps.

For the most part, it feels like the Xperia 1 V is very similar to the Xperia 1 IV save for the cameras, but we’ll have to get our hands on the phone to really get an idea on how this new Exmor T for mobile sensor performs and whether or not it will be worth the upgrade. Pre-orders for the Sony Xperia 1 V will go live on the 11th of May, 2023 where it will be priced starting at $1,399.99.
