Google’s Find My Device network is similar to Apple’s Find My network where it can be used to help locate a phone that might have been lost or stolen. One advantage that Apple’s network has is that it can be used for other Apple products including the Apple Watch, AirPods, iPads, Mac computers, and so on.
If you’re not part of Apple’s ecosystem but are hoping for similar functionality for your Android device and Google gadgets, then you’re in luck. At I/O 2023, Google announced that they will be expanding its Find My Device platform where it will soon include additional devices that you can try and search for if they go missing.
This includes headphones, earbuds, tablets, and more, all of which will be added to the system in the coming months. It will also offer up similar functionality to Apple’s Find My network where it will rely on nearby devices that are owned by other people to help “ping” your missing gadget so that you have an idea of where it might be located or last seen.
What’s interesting is that Google will also be working with other companies like Tile and Chipolo to participate in the program, thus potentially unlocking a much larger network that will make finding your lost items a lot easier.
