Twitter is starting to turn into a messaging app
Twitter is primarily viewed as a social media app where people use it to share updates on their life, new product announcements, ongoing events, and so on. But it seems that Twitter’s CEO Elon Musk is looking to transform the app into a messaging application of sorts.
This is according to Musk’s latest tweet where he revealed that encrypted DMs will be launching on Twitter. This means that only you and the intended recipient of your message will be able to see the messages. It also means that even Twitter themselves won’t be able to see it, making it perfect for users concerned about privacy.
With latest version of app, you can DM reply to any message in the thread (not just most recent) and use any emoji reaction.

Encrypted messages aren’t new and it is a pretty common feature of other messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and so on. Musk also revealed that in a later update, Twitter will be introducing other messenger-like features such as voice and video calls, which is something that can also be found in other messaging applications.
A selling point of this is that according to Musk, it will allow users to chat with just about anyone in the world (who has a Twitter) account without having to give out information like their phone numbers which we have to admit is pretty cool. There is no mention of when these features will be arriving, but encrypted DMs will be the first to be rolled out tomorrow.
