Google Maps is Getting a Huge Upgrade

Google’s I/O Conference keynote kicked off with a lot of news around the company’s push towards its development of artificial intelligence, and this investment in AI technology has carried over to several of the company’s apps and services.

One of these apps is Google Maps, which will soon get a rather useful feature in the form of “Immersive View,” which builds on the existing street view mode in the app. The feature was showed off by Google CEO Sundar Pichai during the Keynote, and takes the Maps user experience to a more visually-compelling level.

The feature aims to let users get a more “complete” view of their surroundings as they plan routes, trips, and will even give more in-depth details including air quality conditions in a certain area, in addition to the best routes possible based on external factors including traffic and weather, to name a couple.

While the Immersive View feature is currently in development, Google says that it expects the feature to launch in Summer. It will be available for fifteen cities initially, including New York, London, Tokyo, and San Francisco.
