Wear OS users can now use WhatsApp on their smartwatches

Most smartwatches support messaging applications, but sometimes this support can be extremely limited. For example, there is still no official WhatsApp app for the Apple Watch, but users can still view and reply to messages from their notifications, but that’s about it.

The good news is that if you’re a Wear OS smartwatch owner, you’ll be pleased to learn that in the latest beta of WhatsApp, the folks at WABetaInfo have discovered that WhatsApp is now officially compatible with Wear OS devices.

This means that if you own a Wear OS smartwatch, like one of Samsung’s Galaxy Watches like the Galaxy Watch 4 or Galaxy Watch 5, you will be able to access WhatsApp on your watch with added functionality. Basically users will now be able to do more things with WhatsApp on their watches, like access their chats and send messages directly from their watch, along with voice messages, which is perfect since a smartwatch’s display is generally too small to type out long sentences.

It’s good to see WhatsApp expanding its support to more devices other than just smartphones. The company has taken a long time to move beyond our phones, and even today, support for tablets is pretty much non-existent save for some workarounds by using WhatsApp on the web.

Right now support for Wear OS is still part of the beta and isn’t available in the public app, so if you don’t want to take part in the beta, you’ll have to wait a bit until it has been publicly released.
