The HTC U23 Pro Signals a Comeback for the Once-Dominant Brand

HTC’s current state is a rather curious one – after several years of relative inactivity on the smartphone market, the Chinese OEM recently launched a few budget Android handsets under its name, although these weren’t really the “comeback” that most HTC fans were hoping for. Things might change soon however, at least according to a leak spotted online.

Several photos and hardware specs were posted online from a source based in China, which point to an upcoming phone currently referred to as the “HTC U23 Pro 5G.” The leak states that the device is believed to be a prototype of sorts, and lists three different model numbers which include 2QC9200, 2QC9100, and 2QCB100.

The phone comes with a design that’s somewhat derivative of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and is speculated to come with a polycarbonate build, although the specs sheet seems a bit more promising. The U23 Pro is highly expected to feature an AMOLED screen, and will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip, backed by 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage.

There’s also a quad-camera setup with a 108MP main camera, in addition to a 4600 mAh battery, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. There’s also Android 13 onboard.

Given that the first couple of HTC smartphones to pop up in a long time aren’t particularly impressive, the U23 Pro 5G is shaping up to be a competitive midrange device, at least from everything that we’ve seen so far. Should the device get cleared for market release internationally, it could be a good sign of things to come for the once-revered Android brand.
