These are the top 200 most common passwords we hope you’re not using

We all know the saying that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. This is especially true for your online accounts, where having encryption and a strong firewall is useless if your password can be easily guessed.

In a recent study published by NordPass, they have shared what they have determined to be the top 200 most common passwords used in 2022. This study was done in partnership with various independent researchers using a database containing 3TB worth of data. They also managed to sort the data into various countries, and the results might be kind of shocking.

For starters, it appears that the most commonly used password across the world is none other than “password”. They also discovered that despite it being 2022, many people still favor “123456” as their passwords. It was also found that in some countries, such as the UK, some people actually chose the names of cities to use as their passwords.

What’s even more alarming is that by choosing to use such simple passwords, you don’t even need to be a hacker to get into accounts as a whopping 83% of these passwords can be easily cracked in under a second.

We can only hope that many of you aren’t using any of these passwords, and if you are, it might be time to consider making them more complex. Also, enabling additional security features like 2FA or using security keys will go a long way in protecting your online accounts.
