Recently leaked renders of Motorola’s upcoming Razr smartphone has got us pretty excited. This is because the phone is said to come with a much larger display than its predecessor, giving the phone more functionality as its external display will probably be more useful than the tiny display in the previous model.
Unfortunately, it looks like our excitement might have been curbed. This is because leaked specs of the upcoming handset have suggested that Motorola might not necessarily be using the latest or greatest hardware for their phone.
The leaked specs have suggested that the Razr could be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. This is a chipset that was launched in 2022, whereas phones launching in 2023 have mostly turned to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Now, don’t get us wrong, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is a perfectly capable and powerful chipset, but it’s a hard sell for a phone that is launching in 2023.
Especially so when you consider that other handset makers like Samsung will be launching the Galaxy Z Flip 5 which will most likely be using the newer chipset. Unless the new Razr will be sold considerably cheaper than the Flip 5, we feel that it might actually be better waiting for Samsung’s foldable.
In any case take it with a grain of salt since nothing has been confirmed yet, but hopefully we’ll have the official details in the coming weeks.
