WhatsApp Now Lets you Use the Same Account for Multiple Devices

While WhatsApp has been one of the most popular smartphone messaging apps for several years now, one complaint that users have had is the platform’s inability to be accessible on more than one device at a time. With that being said, the app is finally adding in a new update that makes this possible.

A post on WhatsApp’s official webpage has announced that users can now send messages and make calls on the app using across five different devices, similar to how the app can be linked via web browsers on desktops and tablets. According to WhatsApp:

“Linking phones as companion devices makes messaging easier. Now you can switch between phones without signing out and pick up your chats where you left off. Or if you’re a small business owner, additional employees are now able to respond to customers directly from their phones under the same WhatsApp Business account.”

Each linked device will be able to connect to WhatsApp independently, and personal messages, media, and calls will retain end-to-end encryption. Should a user’s primary device become inactive for a long period, their account will be automatically logged out of all linked devices. WhatsApp says that the new update has begun rolling out for different regions worldwide, and will be available for more users in the coming weeks.

Additionally, users will soon be able to enter their phone number on WhatsApp Web to receive a one-time code, which they can then use on their phone to enable device linking, instead of having to use a QR code.
