BMW recently announced that its Digital Key Plus feature will now be available for Android devices, after previously being exclusive to iPhones. The feature will allow BMW owners to use their smartphone to lock, unlock, and even start up their vehicle instantly.

There is a caveat however, as the feature is limited to a select number of devices – this list includes the Samsung Galaxy S23+, S23 Ultra, S22+, S22 Ultra, S21+, S21 Ultra, Z Fold4, Z Fold3, Note20 Ultra, as well as the Pixel 7 Pro and 6 Pro. Additionally, devices must be running Android 13.1 and above, while the compatible Samsung devices must have Samsung Wallet onboard.

Using the feature, users can program their car to lock or unlock whenever they approach or walk away from the vehicle. They will have to set up the digital key via the My BMW App, and will be able to share it with up to five other users who have smartphones with either Android or iOS.

BMW adds that Android compatibility will arrive in Digital Key Plus-capable vehicles produced from November 2022, and a future software update will bring the feature over to Digital Key Plus-capable vehicles produced before November 2022.
