Companies like MediaTek and Qualcomm have typically developed chipsets that are used mostly in mobile devices like smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches. But seeing as how powerful Arm-based chipsets are these days, it’s not surprising that these types of components have found their way into other products like laptops and even automobiles.
Qualcomm has its own chipset designed for automobiles in the form of Snapdragon Auto, and now it looks like MediaTek will be tossing their hat into the ring with their own platform, Dimensity Auto.
Dimensity Auto has been designed to be a suite of features for automobiles and will be split into multiple categories, such as Dimensity Auto Cockpit which will be used for the vehicle’s infotainment system. Then there will also be Dimensity Auto Connect that will help the car stay connected with 5G NTN and 5G RedCap, and there will also be support for carrier aggregation, WiFi 7, multi-pair Bluetooth, and GNSS support for more precise locations when it comes to GPS.
Then there is Dimensity Auto package will also include Dimensity Auto Drive, which as its name suggests, will help cars with self-driving features. Last but not least, there is Auto Components which will help car makers keep a supply of components such as flexible OLEDs, large screens, multi-display, power management solutions, and more.
The company has not mentioned which carmaker will be taking up their new Dimensity Auto platform, but it might be worth keeping an eye out on in the future.
