For the longest time ever, WhatsApp was only available to use on one single device. This meant that if you had multiple phones, you couldn’t sync the messages together. The good news is that it looks like WhatsApp is close to bringing that feature to the public.
According to a report from WABetaInfo, it appears that WhatsApp has started to push out its Companion Mode feature to all of its beta testers. Prior to this, the feature was only available to select beta testers, but now whoever is enrolled in the program will be able to take the feature for a spin.
Some of you might be wondering what’s the difference between this feature and “Linked devices”. Linked devices lets you use WhatsApp on multiple devices like a smartphone, PC, tablet, and so on. With Companion Mode, users will be able to use WhatsApp across multiple phones, which means that if you carry more than one handset, you won’t have to register a new number to get your messages on both devices.
At the moment there are some limitations to the feature. For starters, users can’t initiate chat backups with their paired phone, meaning that you’ll still need to use the primary device to back up. Also, right now the feature is only available for Android beta testers, so iPhone users are out of luck for now.
