The Samsung Keyboard app is the default keyboard for pretty much all Samsung phones out there. It isn’t necessarily the best nor the most feature-rich, but it’s good enough for most people and it gets the job done.
Unfortunately, it appears that for some users, the app has been draining the batteries of their phones faster than they thought. This was confirmed in Samsung’s Thailand Community where the company has acknowledged that the Samsung Keyboard app in One UI 5.1 is causing unnecessary battery drain.
The company claims that this is due to “additional qualifying processes” that are related to stickers and emojis, but we’re not 100% sure what this means as this is based on a translation of the post. The good news is that Samsung had actually fixed the issue back in March 2023. If you have enabled automatic updates you should be covered.
If you haven’t updated your phone for a while, you might not have this update. The update should bump the Samsung Keyboard app up to v5.6.10.31, so if you’re running an older version, chances are you are affected by this bug, so you’ll want to update it ASAP if you are noticing strange battery drain on your Samsung device.
