Google has a long history of providing timely monthly updates to Pixel devices. As with all things though delays are inevitable sometimes and things happen that can often mean we get our tech a little later. However, this Aprils update for the Pixel 5 was reportedly released this week, slightly earlier than expected.

A Reddit user from Canada said on Monday that they received the April security patch early and were able to provide the proof to go with it. The user also shared a screenshot of the update, showing that the device is running his April 5th 2023, Android security update. The update is set to release next week along with other Pixel devices, such as Pixel 7 and earlier models.

While it could have been a blip, it’s clear that some users are still awaiting the March update. The Reddit user also shared in the comments the build number the Pixel 5 is allegedly running: TQ2A.230405.003. The first rollout user shared their surprise when they received the update.

There has been no official announcement from Google as to when they were going to be rolling out the April Security release. Going forward, this supposed security patch release can be considered a bug or an initial rollout bug by Google. That said, it’s always a good thing to hear that Android phones get timely or early security updates. So be sure that whatever device you get you’re able to update it often.

It’s also a comforting sign that Google is constantly working on updates. This becoming increasingly necessary due to several nasty vulnerabilities that have made headlines this month affecting Pixel and Samsung devices with Exynos chipsets.

Speaking of which, while Google has already fixed several vulnerabilities in its March 2023 update, Samsung has announced it will fix a Wi-Fi calling vulnerability affecting its latest Galaxy smartphones.
