At the moment, Samsung’s foldable phones come in two form factors – a smartphone-tablet hybrid, and a clamshell phone. But if a recent tweet by tipster Yogesh Brar is accurate, it seems that we might have a third form factor on the way.
According to Brar, he claims that Samsung is apparently working on a third form factor, a tri-fold device, and that it is expected to launch alongside the Fold 5 and Flip 5 later this year. For those unfamiliar, a tri-fold is where there are three display panels that unfold out to become an even larger display.
There is no Galaxy S23 FE in the development chain unlike what the recent rumours have been pointing..
Samsung is instead working on the improved Z Fold 5 & Flip 5 along with a Tri-Fold that might finally ship this year
FE fans should look elsewhere…

In some ways, you could think of it as being similar to the Galaxy Z Fold, but with one added display panel. It sounds like it might be a stretch, but in reality, it isn’t. Samsung had previously filed a patent for such a device back in 2020, so the idea of them bringing that patent to life is very possible.
That being said, whether or not it’ll end up like the device we imagined or something else entirely remains to be seen, and it should be taken with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we’ll have more details to share later on. In the meantime, what do you think? Is a tri-fold smartphone something you might be interested in?
