Meet the Exynos Connect U100, Samsung’s First UWB Chipset
Samsung today announced a new addition to its Exynos family of products with the Exynos Connect U100, the company’s first ultra-wideband (UWB) chip. The chipset is intended for use in several key fields including mobile communications hardware, automotive, and IoT tech as well.
Samsung says that the U100 integrates ranging and positioning features alongside security which can be used for a wide range of applications. UWB is a short-range wireless communication technology that allows for low-power data transfers using a broad frequency spectrum.
The company claims that the Connect U100 can provide an accuracy of single-digit centimeters and under five degrees, which will make it ideal for GPS technologies and even VR experiences, where tracking of minute movements is essential. The new chipset also features radio frequency (RF), baseband, embedded Flash (eFlash) memory and power management IP into a single chip. It also comes with a power-saving feature that makes it ideal for devices with limited power capacities – think smart tags and other similar wireless hardware.
In addition to the new chip launch, Samsung also unveiled its “Exynos Connect” brand, which will be used for short-range wireless communication solutions including Bluetooth and WiFi products.
