Persona fans are in for a treat – SEGA and Atlus have announced that a new mobile game in the Persona 5 franchise will soon be in development, as a result of collaboration with Chinese Publisher Perfect World Games. The mobile game will be titled “Persona5: The Phantom X” and will make its way to Android and iOS devices.

It seems like the game will be a free-to-play title, as is the case with a lot of mobile games nowadays. As per the official announcement from SEGA and Atlus:

“P5X” is a completely new smartphone game based on the world view and basic settings of “Persona 5″. An original story will be drawn by a new Phantom Thief group set in Tokyo. Perfect World, the development and operation company, faithfully followed the style and basic gameplay of the original IP, further brushed up the 3D visual expression, and optimized the UX and play tempo for smartphone users. It is a work that can be expected as content with high quality and high marketing competitiveness.”

Other gameplay elements will include role-playing mechanics which were at the core of the Persona series. No release date has been given at the moment, although we can expect further announcements from SEGA or Atlus in the coming months.
