Following the launch of the Vivo X Fold+ back in 2022, it is largely expected that the company will be following up with new foldables this year. In fact, a rumor at the end of 2022 suggested that the Vivo X Fold 2 will come with the latest hardware, like the use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
It turns out that the Fold 2 might not be the only foldable Vivo plans to launch this year as there have been rumors of a flip phone as well, but unfortunately, it looks like the rumored Vivo X Flip might not be packing similar hardware as the Fold 2.
According to a post on Weibo by reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, they claim that the Vivo X Flip might end up being powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, a chipset that was originally announced back in 2022. Other rumored specs include 12GB of RAM, a 6.8-inch FHD+ 120Hz OLED display, a 4,400mAh battery, and a dual 50MP + 12MP camera setup.
It is a bit disappointing that the handset could use the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 instead of the Gen 2. While the chipset is by no means a slouch, we’re sure that users who plan to keep their phones for the next 3-4 years would prefer having the latest tech as a way of futureproofing their purchase.
It is possible that the use of last year’s hardware could make the phone cheaper, which could help it better compete against other similar handsets launching this year, like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, but we’ll have to wait for the official announcement for the details.
