As we celebrate International Women’s Day here at Phandroid, we want to highlight some of the best things that we have seen around the internet that may help engage, empower, and enlighten. We celebrate International Women’s Day because women have always been a part of, but sometimes excluded from, the stories that surround the world’s rich history.
Google, along with its many partners this year, intends to help bridge that gap. Google has an amazing variety of exhibitions and other content that I’m delighted to bring to you all over the course of this week. Hopefully, you’ll find something interesting and learn about all the ways that women have changed all of the things that we take for granted.
I want to start this roundup with Google’s interactive art museum called Her Own Muse. This is an interactive love letter to the women who have made their marks on canvas and cloth throughout history. Comprising all forms of art from various parts of the world and time periods, it’s a wonderful place to spend some time appreciating some art with some artists who you’ve likely never heard of before.
For those of us who never get to get to galleries anymore (thanks to COVID), it can be easy to forget what it’s like to be close to a painting or sculpture. Using the Art Projector tool from Google, you can get a sense of scale for a painting as it projects on your wall the right dimensions and scope of the painting you want to view. It’s free, and you will have lots of inspirational artists to choose from for this International Women’s Day.
Who doesn’t love a good filter these days? From the craziness that began with Snapchat and has made a significant impact on Tiktok. There is barely an app that exists that doesn’t have some sort of AI filter attached to it. Today will be no exception, with the ability to transform and engage with your favorite artists using dedicated filters and creative tools. These selections have been refreshed for this year’s International Women’s Day and are worth taking a look at if you haven’t checked out the app in a while.
