ZTE’s Upcoming Phone will Feature an Under-Display Camera

2023 has been an interesting year so far, in terms of smartphone hardware – we’ve seen new and unique approaches to mobile phone technology, including foldables and satellite communication, to name a couple. One breakthrough in particular is the introduction of under-display cameras, although the trend seems to have somewhat slowed down.

That’s what ZTE looks to change with its upcoming phone, the Nubia Z50 Ultra. Nubia’s official social media account on Chinese networking site Weibo recently teased some aspects of the phone’s design, which will feature a screen with a camera built underneath the display. While not an entirely new concept, it’s one that has yet to reach mainstream markets, as well as the hands of consumers worldwide.

To be a bit more specific, the phone’s display will feature a 6.8-inch flat-panel OLED manufactured by BOE. The camera itself will have a 2.24µm pixel size and an F/2.0 aperture. It’s expected that the phone will ship with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC inside, though not much else is predicted in terms of overall specs. With that said, the company will formally reveal the device on March 7, where we can expect a full list of hardware specifications, as well as pricing and market availability.
