This is the Nokia G22, Nokia’s Easily-Repairable Smartphone

Nokia’s recent efforts in marketing its smartphones have taken a very interesting development, with the company pushing for better sustainability and responsibility towards the environment. It looks like the Finnish brand is dead-set on committing to this initiative, with the launch of its newest smartphone, the Nokia G22.

Announced during MWC 2023, the Nokia G22 is described by Nokia as being “Built to last, with recycled materials and QuickFix repairability.” This means that the phone is geared towards users who wouldn’t mind being able to easily fix their smartphone, or taking it to third-party centers for repairs.

In terms of hardware, the phone comes with a Unisoc T606 chipset, paired with either 4GB RAM and 64GB storage and 4GB RAM and 128GB storage options. There’s a 6.5” HD+ display upfront, with a 720 x 1600 pixel resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, 800 nits of brightness, and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The G22 also comes with a 50MP main camera with f/1.8 aperture, as well as 2MP macro and depth cameras, with an 8MP front-facing camera. Powering the phone is a 5050 mAh battery, which Nokia brands as a “QuickFix” repairable battery.

As for software, the phone will come with Android 12, with planned upgrades to Android 13 and 14 in the future.

With that said, opening up the phone isn’t as simple as taking off the back cover like the Nokia phones of old – users will still have to pry the back panel off which can be easily done with a guitar pick. Repair guides will also be available through iFixit, including optional tools and such.
