The problem with foldable phones is that the foldable display is one of the weaker points of the phone. This is due to the fact that it folds and unfolds, which means that there is a higher chance of it damaging during normal use compared to a regular flat screen, although companies that make these phones usually advertise that their display should last for years.
Unfortunately for some users, that doesn’t appear to be the case. According to a report from PhoneArena, they received a report from one of their users who claims that their Galaxy Z Fold 3’s display cracked for no reason, despite the fact that the phone was never dropped. What’s unfortunate is that it happened right after the phone’s warranty expired.
This means that the user would have to pay for the repairs out of their pocket. According to the email, after getting in touch with Samsung, they were told that the repair cost for the display would be $800, which is about 73% of the price of the phone brand new. This person isn’t alone in their experience.
PhoneArena points to another report on Reddit where user Snoo claims that their display cracked too despite being very “careful” with it. To be fair, these are widespread issues and are isolated incidents, but if you are considering getting a foldable phone, this is something you’ll have to keep in mind.
