Nope, the Samsung Galaxy S23 does not support Android’s seamless updates
Unfortunately for would-be Samsung Galaxy S23 owners, it appears that Samsung has not included support for the seamless updates in its latest flagship phones. This is according to a report from 9to5Google who did some digging using aps such as Inware and Treble Check as well as manually checking using ADB.
In a way this doesn’t come as a surprise. While seamless updates were introduced several years ago, Samsung has not included support for it all this while, so honestly, the lack of support in the Galaxy S23 shouldn’t have been surprising. While it is possible that Samsung could introduce it in a future update, you probably shouldn’t hold your breath.
For those who are unfamiliar, seamless updates are a feature that Google introduced a few years ago. The idea is that the update would be installed on a secondary partition of the phone’s storage and applied when the phone was rebooted. This is supposed to make it “safer” for users to update their phones because it means that in the event something goes wrong, it can be easily reverted.
There were concerns about storage, but with Samsung bumping the base storage to 256GB from 128GB, this shouldn’t be an issue. Either way, it doesn’t really take away from the fact that the Galaxy S23 series are still great phones, but it might be something to think about if you’re considering getting it.
