Here’s how Netflix will crack down on password sharing
Last year, Netflix announced that they would be cracking down on password/account sharing. Many were wondering how they might go about achieving this, and now Netflix has laid out their plans in a support document found on their website.
According to Netflix, the process is pretty straightforward where they will rely on IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity to determine if accounts are being signed in from the same household, or if they’re being shared with other users who might be living in different cities, states, or even different countries.
Netflix also states that when devices that might be accessed outside of your home sign in, they may ask for some form of verification. Some of you might be wondering, but what if you’re traveling overseas but still want to access Netflix? According to Netflix, users will be required to connect to the WiFi of their primary location and watch something at least once every 31 days.
This means that if you’re just traveling for a short period of time, this shouldn’t be an issue, but if you’re planning to move away from your home and the account doesn’t belong to you, then you might have to just sign up for your own account.
