Google Meet now features In-Meeting Reactions

Google has wasted no time continuing to provide a steady stream of features and improvements to Google Meet, and the latest addition to the company’s signature video-conferencing software brings a seemingly minor but interesting feature to the app – enter in-meeting reactions, which will be available on Google Meet for Web, Meet Hardware devices, iOS, with Android to follow soon. As per Google’s official update page:

“In-meeting reactions provide a lightweight, non-disruptive way to engage and participate in meetings without interrupting the speaker. Further, with options to select skin tones that best represent your identity, you can participate authentically. We hope these features make it easier for you, your colleagues, and stakeholders to stay better connected and engaged, whether they’re working from home, the office, or anywhere in between.”

For admins, reactions will be enabled by default and can be turned off via the Admin console, and this works the same for meeting hosts. The reactions will appear as a small badge in the sender’s video tile, on the left side of the screen. When there are multiple users in a session, several emojis will be displayed on the left side of the screen. Users can share a reaction by selecting a smile icon in the control bar to further open the reaction bar. Users can also hover on the bar to customize the skin tone of their chosen emojis. With all that said, this should prove to be a fun little feature, and is a nice method of integrating modern chat features into Google Meet.
