Google’s redesigned Android Auto is now rolling out to users
Back at Google I/O 2022, Google announced that they would be introducing a redesign to its Android Auto car infotainment platform. Fast forward a little under a year, Google has announced at CES 2023 that the redesigned Android Auto is now rolling out to the public following a beta test back in November 2022.
For those unfamiliar, some of the changes that Google has introduced in this new, redesigned version of Android Auto is a card-based split screen UI. This means that instead of users looking at just one app at a time, they can split the layout so that they can look at one app, like their navigation app, and also access their media controls at the same time.
For cars that might have a wider infotainment display, Android Auto can also adapt accordingly and show additional information like the media and weather. It will also work with cars that might have a display with a taller orientation.
The redesigned Android Auto will also come with a taskbar that Android 12L and Android 13 users might be familiar with, giving users a way to swap between apps quickly and easily. There is also a notification count for unread notifications, along with a shortcut to Google Assistant.
So if you happen to own a car that supports Android Auto, then this is an update you’ll want to keep an eye out for.
