Samsung’s new monitor wants to challenge Apple’s Studio Display

Based on the reviews, it seems that Apple’s Studio Display has been quite well-received. The only problem is how much Apple charges for the display, which is kind of absurd for those who only need a display and don’t really care about all the other specs.

If a 5K 27-inch display is something you are interested in, then you might want to take a look at Samsung’s brand new ViewFinity S9 S90PC display. At the base level, this is a display with a 27-inch screen and with a 5K resolution, meaning that with regards to its specs, it does seem to match quite close to the Studio Display.

It also boasts a wide color gamut of 99% DCI-P3 that promises more accurate color representation and details, and there is also a built-in Color Calibration Engine. Samsung is also including an accompanying app called the Samsung Smart Calibration that will be able to match the colors of the monitor to that of your phone.

In terms of ports, there is USB-C and Thunderbolt 4, so you can use it to power your laptops or transfer large files quickly. A unique feature about this display is that it can also rotate, so if you want a vertical setup, you can do that. Samsung has also included a 4K SlimFit web camera which is way better than what the Studio Display offers.

That being said, at the moment Samsung has yet to confirm how much it will cost or when it will be available, but it might be worth keeping an eye out for if you’re looking for a potentially cheaper alternative to the Studio Display from Apple.
