Apps are constantly updated on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis where improvements are made, bugs are fixed, new features are added, and so on, and as time passes, certain features will no longer be compatible with older hardware and so developers tend to drop support after a period of time.
If you happen to be using WhatsApp as your main messenger app and you have not upgraded your Android phone or iPhone for a while, there is a chance that your phone could no longer be supported by the app in 2023. According to a list published by GizChina, these are the devices that will be affected.
According to WhatsApp’s Help Center page:
“To choose what to stop supporting, every year we, like other technology companies, look at which devices and software are the oldest and have the fewest number of people still using them. These devices also might not have the latest security updates, or might lack the functionality required to run WhatsApp.”
For the most part a lot of these devices are very, very old so the fact that they are still being supported until now is actually quite impressive. We imagine that most of you have probably upgraded since, but it’s something to take note of anyway, just in case.
