It’s a Christmas miracle – LG announced that Android 13 will be coming to the LG Velvet, a couple of years after declaring its exit from the smartphone business. This will most likely be the last major software update for the handset, following the Android 12 update that was also announced earlier this year.
According to the company, the Android 13 update will arrive for the handset within the first quarter of 2023. This falls in line with LG’s promise to provide the Velvet with three major OS updates, with a dash of security updates every now and then.
Launched back in 2020, the LG Velvet was a different approach of sorts for LG, although unfortunately it wasn’t enough to single-handedly save the brand’s smartphone business. A mid-range handset, it came with hardware including a 6.8-inch P-OLED screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset, a choice of 6 or 8GB of RAM, 128 GB of expandable storage, a triple-camera rear set-up, and a 4,300 mAh with 25W Fast charging support.
In our review, the LG Velvet had too many compromises in a market where tons of other mid-range smartphones provide better experiences for lesser costs. With that said, it’s commendable that LG is still able to stick to its update schedule, and Velvet owners should keep an eye out for future updates regarding the Android 13 patch.
