Kiss goodbye to Netflix password sharing in 2023

Obviously for Netflix, it would be ideal for the company if all its viewers had their own individual paid accounts, but that isn’t always the case. Many users have opted to share tier passwords with friends and family members, thus making it cheaper for them to subscribe, but that will apparently be going away in 2023.

In a report from The Wall Street Journal, it seems that come early 2023, Netflix is expected to start cracking down on password sharing amongst its users. The company is said to be considering a gradual reduction to test the waters as they are wary of consumer backlash, but how exactly this will come into effect remains to be seen.

Netflix has more or less set the stage already. The company has recently rolled out a new plan that will let users share an account, but users apart from the main account holder will still have to pay a subscription, albeit at a reduced rate. Netflix has also tried to make it more affordable by launching an ad-supported plan in hopes that it might prompt users to subscribe.

That being said, we are curious as to how Netflix plans to enforce password sharing and how its customers will react. We imagine that there are probably many people out there who might simply stop their subscription if this were to happen, but we’ll just have ot wait and see.
