WhatsApp could finally be bringing true self-destructing messages to the platform

There are apps out there that allow users to send self-destructing messages, where upon opening the message, it will delete itself on the spot. Now according to a report from WABetaInfo, it looks like WhatsApp could finally be gaining a similar feature.

At the moment, WhatsApp has a feature called Disappearing Messages where messages sent in a chat are deleted after a certain period of time. This means that within that timeframe, the messages can still be viewed. In fact, it was previously reported that WhatsApp could actually allow users to keep those messages, defeating the whole point.

But now according to WABetaInfo, we could finally be getting proper self-destructing messages that disappear once they’ve been read. Currently, WhatsApp has a similar feature for photos where the photos disappear upon being read, so we’re not sure why they did not bring this feature to messages earlier.

Either way, we don’t know for sure when this feature is expected to roll out, but for those who can appreciate the privacy that self-destructing messages afford and you use WhatsApp as your primary messenger, then this could be an update to look forward to.
