Quick Launch Apps

Oppo has a feature that lets you launch apps quickly right after unlocking the Find X5 Pro. It can be accessed by pressing and holding on the display which you already do if you have the in-display fingerprint scanner enabled. All you need to do is to keep pressing and holding even after the device is unlocked and until you see the quick shortcuts wheel.

Once the wheel appears, you need to swipe in the direction of the app you want to launch. The good thing is these shortcuts are customizable and you can add any of your preferred apps.

Toolbar

Toolbar is another feature meant to help you launch apps quickly. It is accessible by swiping left from the right edge of the display. It houses more apps and tools than the aforementioned step of quickly launching apps. The best part is that this toolbar is accessible from everywhere, all you need to do is to swipe left. This eliminates the need for minimizing/closing the current app and then launching some other app or tool.

Hide Photos and Videos

We all love to click and store photos/videos on our smartphones but not all of them are meant to be seen by everyone. This is where the ability to hide photos and videos comes in handy. Open the gallery app on the phone and select the photo/video(s) you want to hide. Choose the Set as Private option available in the bottom navigation bar.

To access hidden photos, simply visit Settings > Privacy > Private Safe and authenticate yourself via the fingerprint scanner. Choose the images and videos option to access the media files you choose to hide.

Enable App Drawer

The Oppo Find X5 Pro runs custom Android skin ColorOS. It means not everything will be a familiar experience if you are coming from stock Android or some other Android skin. One such difference is in the app drawer which is disabled by default. All apps on the phone are visible on the home screen, similar to how it is on Apple’s iOS.

You can get the app drawer by visiting Settings > Home screen & Lock screen > Home screen mode > Drawer mode. This way, you can start using your new smartphone with an app drawer and no more crowded home screens.

Hide Apps

Another important privacy feature that you should know about is hiding apps. This can be done by visiting Settings > Privacy > Hide Apps and entering your password. It will show you a list of all the apps installed on your phone. There is a toggle next to each app that you need to turn on if you want to hide that app. On this same page, you will see the settings icon in the top right corner. Tap on the icon to set your passcode for accessing hidden apps. You will need to type this passcode in the phone dialer app.

Split-screen mode

One of the perks of owning an Android smartphone is cool multi-tasking features. One such feature is split-screen where you can use two different apps at the same time. To use this mode, first launch an app and swipe up from the bottom with three fingers. It will move the whole app and give you access to the home screen. You can then tap on the second app you want to use and both these apps will start working in split-screen mode.

Screenshot gestures

Oppo makes it easier for you to capture screenshots, no matter if you want to capture everything on the screen or just a selected portion. You can capture a full-screen screenshot by simply swiping down using three fingers. For the select part, tap and hold with three fingers and start moving down. This will give you a box-shaped area and offer you a preview of what area will be screenshotted. You can resize the box as per your preference and tap okay to save the screenshot.

One-handed usage

The Find X5 Pro has a 6.7-inch display which means it is one of the tallest smartphones you can get. This is the reason it can get a bit inconvenient to use the phone with one hand. It can become difficult to reach the corners of the app UI and access the option(s) you want to. To use the one-handed mode, launch the app and swipe down from the lower half of the display. It will instantly shrink and make it easier for you to navigate and use the app with one hand. When you want to use the app in full-scale mode, tap the arrow icon right above the status bar.

App Lock

Even though we can hide apps, it does not mean we are okay with others using the apps we have kept unhidden. This is where app lock comes into the picture. It prevents any unauthorized access to apps when you give your phone to someone else. You can lock all sorts of apps using the feature, be it social media, messaging, work, or banking.

The app lock can be enabled by visiting Settings > Privacy > App Lock. You will need to set up a biometric authentication option if you do not have it already. Next up, choose the apps for which you want the app lock to be turned on.

Protect it with a case

The Oppo Find X5 Pro is a flagship smartphone that costs a lot too (around $1000). It means you better protect with a good case if you want to avoid paying more on repairing costs. Oppo’s official cases are usually the first choice but they may also be quite expensive for some buyers which is why you should have a look at third-party Find X5 Pro cases online as well as offline. Here are some that we recommend:

Click 50MP photos

Oppo has packed the Find X5 Pro camera setup with a 50-megapixel sensor. However, clicking 50MP shots means ending up with photos that take a lot of space. This is why it is another camera option that Oppo has turned off by default. It can be enabled by opening the camera app, tapping the Photo option, and choosing the 50MP option in the top right corner.

Capture in RAW

Oppo smartphones are known for their camera capabilities and the new Find X5 Pro is no different. It is packed with features that can help you click professional-like photos. One such feature is support for capturing photos in RAW. It is a lossless file that captures uncompressed data from the camera sensor. These photos need to be processed later to get the desired result and are preferred by advanced photographers.

If you want to click in RAW on Find X5 Pro, simply launch the camera app and visit its settings. Look for the Format setting here and choose RAW from the available options and that’s it.

Shoot 4K 60fps vidoes

The Find X5 Pro camera is not only about clicking high-quality images but also about shooting high-resolution videos. It supports shooting videos in 4K at 60 frames per second but it is a feature that is disabled by default. This is because even a 3-minute 4K 60fps video file can take space in GBs and you will end up exhausting your phone’s storage space rather quickly.

Whenever you feel like shooting in 4K, open the Camera app and visit Video > Resolution > 4K and Video > Menu > Frame Rate > 60 to enable 4K video recording at 60fps.

Always on display

Oppo’s Find X5 Pro comes with Always-on display functionality which is beneficial in more than one way. It lets you check important details like time and date along with notifications without having to wake up the display every time. Oppo lets you customize various aspects of this functionality to make it better suit your personal needs and preferences.

Visit Settings > Personalization > Always on display to get relevant settings. The first toggle is to enable and disable the functionality. You can choose whether you want it to be on all the time or during a scheduled timeline. There are also multiple AOD styles to choose from.

Dark mode

Like every other smartphone, the Find X5 Pro comes with light mode enabled out of the box. Those who prefer dark mode on their phones and applications can do so through the settings. You need to visit Settings > Display and brightness > Dark mode and turn on the toggle.

Screen Color Temperature

The Find X5 Pro offers a balanced screen color temperature experience out of the box. It means it is neither too warm (yellow tint) nor too cool (blue tint). But if you prefer your phone’s display to be on the warmer or cooler side, you can make those changes through settings. Just visit Settings > Display and brightness > Screen Color Temperature and choose your preferred option: Cool, Default, and Warm.

Change font style and size

When you will complete setting up the Find X5 Pro, you will be welcomed by the default font style and size. This works perfectly fine for the majority of the users but some want to make adjustments as per their preferences or needs. The good thing is Oppo lets you do that natively and it takes only a few seconds.

Visit Settings > Display and brightness > Font to choose your preferred font style. As for font size, you need to look for the Font Size setting after visiting the Display and brightness setting.
