Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5’s external display could get bigger

0

Foldable clamshell phones like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip series usually come with a small external display that is used to display notifications, the time, and so on. The display, for the most part, is largely functional, but it seems that Samsung could be looking to upgrade the size in the Flip 5 in 2023.

This is according to a tweet by DSCC CEO Ross Young who has heard from their sources that for the Flip 5, Samsung could bump the display size to over 3-inches. For context, the Flip 4’s external display is currently 1.9-inches, which means that a jump to over 3-inches will be night and day.

To be fair, the Flip series is mostly usable when the phone is unfolded open. This means that apart from displaying some information on the external display, most of the time users will rely on the main internal display for most of the time. This means that for the most part, there really isn’t an issue with the current display size.

We’re not sure what Samsung is hoping to achieve by increasing the display, but presumably the company has plans to introduce new features that might be able to take advantage of it. Either way, we’re still quite a long ways off from the Flip 5’s launch, so take it with a grain of salt for now.
