One of the newer features Google introduced to Android 13 was a native media player that was built into the notification shade and lockscreen. This provided users with a quick way to access their media playback controls versus having to launch the app and take themselves out of whatever else they were doing.
Unfortunately, not all third-party apps updated themselves to support the feature. If you are using Spotify, then you might have realized that the app did not support the feature, at least until now. According to a report from 9to5Google, it looks like Spotify is testing out support for the media player in the latest beta of their app.
This would suggest that the company is getting ready to update their app to bring full support for the media player in a future update. That being said, we’re sure that many Spotify users are probably used to controlling their music using Spotify’s own player, but if you prefer using native features and want to be able to control your media playback all from the same location, then this is an update to look forward to.
There is no mention as to when Spotify is expected to conclude its testing and roll the feature out to the public, so keep an eye out for it if you think that this might be useful for you.
