For years ever since WhatsApp launched, it has not been available on tablets. It has been a mobile-only app, but later transitioned into a mobile and desktop app. The good news is that if you’re a tablet user, it looks like WhatsApp is getting ready to launch the tablet version of the app.
This is according to reports from some users who claim to have gotten a banner notification informing them that WhatsApp for tablet is available to beta testers. To be fair, the tablet version of WhatsApp has kind of been expected for a while, especially ever since WhatsApp started to allow the mobile and desktop apps to function independently of each other.
The main issue in the past was that users had to link a phone number to their WhatsApp account, which meant that using it on non-mobile devices was not possible. But the company has been making changes behind the scenes to make the app more independent, so if you’ve ever wanted to use WhatsApp on a tablet, it shouldn’t be too long of a wait.
Interestingly enough, WhatsApp is owned by Meta who in the past has refused to bring Instagram onto tablets as well. We’re not sure if the launch of WhatsApp on tablets could be a sign that maybe Meta could eventually bring Instagram to tablets, but maybe don’t hold your breath.
