Huawei’s back with a new and more affordable clamshell foldable smartphone

Huawei is no stranger to foldable phones and in the past, we saw the company launch handsets that competed directly with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series. Last year, they launched the P50 Pocket which took on the likes of the Galaxy Z Flip series, and now it looks like they have since followed up with a newer and more affordable model.

This comes in the form of the Huawei Pocket S where it will be priced at CNY5,988 (around $818), making it cheaper than its predecessor which was priced at CNY8,988 (around $1,228). This also makes it cheaper after conversion compared to Samsung’s latest clamshell foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

We had actually heard rumors that Huawei was working on such a device back in September, and now the handset is official. In terms of specs, the phone comes with a 6.9-inch inner foldable display with a 120Hz refresh rate, which Huawei claims is capable of withstanding as many as 400,000 folds.

Under the hood, the phone is powered by Qalcomm’s Snapdragon 778G chipset and will unfortunately not come with support for 5G There is also a small circular external display, which is also pair with a circular camera cutout that consists of two cameras – a 40MP main and a 13MP ultrawide.

At the moment, the handset is only available in China and there is no word on whether or not we will be seeing it launch in global markets.
