Ever since Samsung effectively discontinued its Note series of smartphones, the company started introducing S Pen support for its non-Note devices, like the Galaxy S-series and the Galaxy Z Fold series.
While the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with a dedicated S Pen slot, that feature is still missing from the Fold 4, but that is expected to change in the future. This is according to a report from The Elec over in Korea where they claim that Samsung has shared some challenges with their suppliers, one of which is having a designated slot on the phone for the S Pen.
Apparently Samsung had initially planned to introduce that feature to the Fold 4, along with higher-end camera modules, but these plans were ultimately scrapped as it added too much weight and thickness to the handset. We’re not sure if these limitations can be overcome in time for the Fold 5, which will most likely launch in 2023, so we’ll have to wait and see.
It does feel like a wasted opportunity, especially with the larger tablet-like screen on the Fold 4 which would make it the perfect drawing or note-taking tool, so hopefully Samsung will be able to introduce an S Pen slot in the Fold 5 next year.
