Twitter is giving users more control over mentions

One of the features of Twitter comes in the form of mentions. It’s basically like tagging where other users can “@” your username in a post or a comment to get your attention. If you’re a public figure, we imagine that this can be overwhelming. It can also be annoying and in some cases, used for spam.

Thankfully, that will change in a future update. As spotted by researcher Jane Manchun Wong, she discovered an upcoming feature in Twitter which will give users more control over mentions. As you can see in the tweet below, this feature will let users control mentions, where they can disable the feature completely, or choose the option where only people you follow are allowed to mention you.

There is no mention as to when this feature is expected to be rolled out to the public, but it might be something to look forward to for those who are trying to cut down on these mentions because like we said, sometimes it can happen as spam which can be rather annoying.

We also have no idea if this is a feature that might be hidden behind a paywall and will be exclusive to Twitter Blue subscribers. It probably won’t be the case but we’ll just have to wait and see if and when the feature does roll out for the public.
