How to SIM unlock the Moto G Power (2022) for FREE

Buying phones on contract through carriers makes sense. You’re obviously going to need the phone plan anyway, so you might as well get the phone on a repayment plan to make it more “affordable” upfront, especially when we’re talking about flagship phones that could cost upwards of $1,000.

The only problem is that when you buy through a carrier, the SIM card is usually locked to the carrier. This is to prevent users from signing a contract and then running off with the phone, plus it also locks users into the carrier’s service where they might spend more on other services.

The good news is that if you need to unlock the SIM card of your Moto G Power (2022) smartphone, it’s really easy, and in some instances, it might actually be free, so read on if you’d like to find out how to unlock the SIM of your Moto G Power (2022).

Unlocking through your carrier for free

Usually carriers are more than willing to help you unlock the SIM card of your phone and this is a service they typically offer for free, but of course there are some requirements that users will need to meet in order to qualify for a free SIM unlock. While this may vary from carrier to carrier, in general:

  • You need to be in good standing with your carrier, meaning that you don’t have any outstanding bills and that the contract with your carrier for the phone has expired
  • You’ll also need to make sure that you have owned the device for at least 60-90 days

Like we said, the requirements set out by carriers might be different from carrier to carrier, so it’s always best to call your carrier ahead of time to find out what they might need before you proceed.

Assuming that you meet the requirements set out by your carrier, then the unlock process is really straightforward, just follow the steps below and you should be good to go.

  1. On your Moto G Power (2022) handset, launch the Phone app and dial *#06# to pull up your phone’s IMEI number
  2. Write the IMEI number down somewhere so you can refer to it later
  3. Call your carrier and request for your SIM unlock code
  4. You will probably be asked to provide the IMEI for the Moto G Power (2022)
  5. If you meet all the requirements that we mentioned above, the SIM unlock code will be sent to the email address you provided in the next 2-5 days.
  6. Once you’ve received your code, swap out the SIM with a SIM from another carrier
  7. Enter the SIM unlock code that you received in your email when prompted and you’re set!

Unlocking with Android SIM Unlock

If you do not meet the requirements by your carrier to unlock the SIM, or if for whatever reason they can’t or won’t unlock your SIM, not to worry because thanks to third-party services like Android SIM Unlock, you can actually unlock the SIM of your Moto G Power (2022) by paying a small (but affordable) fee.

  1. On your Moto G Power (2022) phone, launch the Phone app and dial *#06# to get the device’s IMEI number
  2. Write the IMEI number down
  3. Go to Android SIM Unlock’s website
  4. Enter your device’s IMEI number
  5. Complete the checkout process with your payment and contact information
  6. Once payment is made, you should then receive the Moto G Power (2022)’s unlock code either through SMS or email
  7. The moment you’ve received your code, you can then swap out the SIM on your phone with a SIM from another carrier
  8. You should be prompted to enter the SIM unlock code that you received in your email, and once you’ve done that, you should be good to go

We’d like to point out that even if your SIM has been unlocked, it does not release you from any contractual obligations you might have with the carrier. If you’re still tied to a contract, an unlocked SIM does not get you out of it.

Unlocking the SIM merely gives you a bit more freedom as to which service you can use with your phone, which is handy and useful if you’re flying to another country and need to unlock the SIM so that you can swap it out and use it with a local carrier to avoid roaming charges.
