Google will be shutting down Android’s Assistant Driving Mode
Our cars have been getting smart features over the years, like Google’s Android Auto platform which can be installed in support infotainment head units. For those with older vehicles or those who don’t want to spend the money upgrading, there were smartphone alternatives like Assistant Driving Mode.
The feature was originally announced back in 2019 where it basically allowed users to use their voice to complete certain specific actions while you are driving so that you don’t have to look or reach for your phone. Unfortunately, it looks like that feature will be going away for good.
This is according to a report from 9to5Google in which they have received confirmation from Google that the feature will be shut down on the 21st of November. The good news is that if you still don’t plan on getting an Android Auto head unit, Driving Mode in Google Maps for Android will remain.
For those unfamiliar, this is kind of like a “downgraded” version of Android Auto, but seeing as how simple it is to use and doesn’t cost you anything, generally speaking it is good enough for most users, so you can always keep using that once Assistant Driving Mode has been shut down.
