Google Home app now available on Samsung’s smartwatches

One of the advantages a smartwatch has over another wearable like a fitness tracker is that it can do more than just track your health and workouts. If you happen to own several Google Home compatible smart home devices, then you might be pleased to learn that the Google Home app is now available for Samsung’s smartwatches.

At Google’s event last week, the company released an updated version of the Home app on the Play Store. This updated version can be installed on smartwatches running Wear OS 3.0 or higher, which basically covers some of Samsung’s newer wearables like the Galaxy Watch 5 series as well as the previous gen models like the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.

With the app finally being available on Wear OS 3.0 devices, it means that users now have an alternative way of controlling their smart home appliances. Prior to this, users could control smart home gadgets either through a smart speaker or display, the Home app on their phone, or using Google Assistant.

While Google Assistant is useful, sometimes it’s not convenient to use voice controls so having an app adds some flexibility to that, which is a good thing. That being said, as SamMobile points out, the app is currently in Public Preview which means it’s kind of like an open beta of sorts, so if you do run into issues or bugs, it’s normal, but it might be worth checking out if you’re curious about it.
