If you’re a Google Wallet or Google Pay user who has long used either platform to make payments for items when you’re shopping, using it for loyalty points, and so on, and have suddenly found that you are unable to use it anymore, then know that you’re not alone.
This is according to recent posts found on Reddit in which users are claiming that they are suddenly unable to use Google Wallet and/or Google Pay. According to these users, they are greeted by an error message in which it incorrectly assumes that their device has been rooted. The message reads:
“Your device doesn’t meet security requirements
You can’t pay contactless with this device. It may be rooted or running uncertified software. Contact your device manufacturer or visit Google Wallet Help for more info.”
As noted by 9to5Google, this message can appear when used with pre-release devices or devices that are running beta versions of software, but in these instances, most of the users are running regular devices that have not been rooted and are running completely normal software releases and not beta releases.
Some users claim that resetting their devices can solve the issue, but this should be a last resort measure. Some also claim that clearing the cache on the Play Store can also be a potential fix, but it seems that there is no guarantee as some users have had luck doing so, while some haven’t.
Hopefully this is an issue Google is aware of and will be able to issue a fix soon, so if you are affected, maybe check out some of the suggested solutions on Reddit, or just hold out and wait for Google to address it.
