7 Reasons Android Users Might Want the New iPhone 14 Pro

Apple’s iPhones have always been somewhat a point of contention among a certain population of the online tech community. Through the years, there have been countless debates and discussions over whether or not iPhones and iOS have something better to offer users over the myriad of Android devices out there. And while in reality it’s always been a matter of personal preference, it’s undeniable that the debate rages on to this day.

As such, the announcement of Apple’s latest iPhone 14 device series has shown off some interesting concepts, while at the same time giving us a sense of Deja vu. While some hardware elements remain similar to last year’s iPhone 13 models, we’ve gotten some spec bumps here and there, which just might appeal to the right crowd, and maybe even prompt a change in smartphone preference.

With that being said, you might be curious as to what all the hype is about, or maybe you’re planning to completely jump ship from the greener side of things. Whatever the case might be, here’s a quick list of reasons why you – an Android user – might want to try out the iPhone 14 Pro.

Performance Upgrades

Apple’s optimized performance with its Bionic chips has always been one of the highlights of its mobile hardware. 2021’s A15 Bionic offered great battery life and solid overall performance on the 13 Pro handsets, and it seems that things will get a nice little improvement with this year’s A16 chips. The A16 Bionic is built on a 4nm process, which makes use of a faster 6-core CPU for better overall performance, especially with graphics-intensive games.

As such, you might be tempted by the promised performance upgrades with the 14 Pro. We can’t blame you after all – fast performance is what most users are looking for with their smartphones, and if what Apple says about its newest chip is accurate, then by all means go knock yourself out.

Improved Cameras

As for camera performance, Apple has finally introduced a larger 48-megapixel main sensor on its 14 Pro models, a significant step-up from the 12-megapixel lenses we’ve repeatedly seen in most of their older devices, and says that this introduces new possibilities for mobile photography. For example, 4X resolution images are now possible, making for clearer cropped images and such, along with better low-light photo performance.

This main sensor is accompanied by a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, 12-megapixel 2x telephoto, and 12-megapixel 3x telephoto sensors as well. While other manufacturers such as Samsung and Google have undoubtedly raised the bar in terms of camera quality, it goes without saying that Apple still manages to hold its own in the camera department, offering impressive features like Cinematic mode and 4K 24fps recording, to name a few.

Always-On Display

A feature that’s been on Android for several years now, Always-on display finally makes its debut on Apple hardware, although it comes with a twist. As opposed to most Android-based AOD screens, the iPhone 14 Pro will still display your main homescreen wallpaper, albeit with a subtle dimmed-down tone that still displays the main image in your wallpaper. As with other AOD set-ups, you’ll get instant access to on-screen elements like notifications and widgets.

Apple does say that this has been designed to conserve battery, and flipping down the screen will turn off the display in case you want to save a bit of juice on the phone.

No More Notch… In a Way

If the infamous iPhone notch has always dissuaded you from getting Apple’s handsets, then you might be pleased to know that the 14 Pro and Pro Max adopt a new approach to front-facing camera placement with the “Dynamic Island.” It’s a clever and interesting approach to utilizing the hole-punch display, as opposed to most other phones which simply house the camera in the cut-out and nothing more.

The Dynamic Island is fully touch compatible, allowing users to tap and swipe on the pill cut-out to interact with notifications, access the media player, check on timers, and whatever else function is available, depending on the app that’s currently running.

Better Battery

The battery life on last year’s iPhone 13 Pro was nothing short of impressive, even managing to outlast some popular competitors in the Android space, thanks in part to efficient power management from the A15 Bionic chip and a decently-sized battery. While Apple hasn’t publicly disclosed the exact battery capacity of the iPhone 14 Pro models, we’re willing to bet that battery performance shouldn’t be too far off from the 13 Pro, especially on this year’s Max model.

Given that even the most powerful Snapdragon chips sometimes have trouble with battery management and consumption, maybe Apple’s Bionic-powered handsets might be something for you to try out.

Crash Detection

Apple also introduced Crash Detection with this year’s iPhone Pro models, borrowing from a feature that’s likewise present on the Apple Watch Series 8. Crash Detection seems very promising, and will automatically dial emergency services if it detects that you’re in a traffic collision or such. Using motion sensing as well as other built-in hardware features to measure sudden irregularities in mobility, the phone will require you to respond to the display, and in failing to do so will immediately alert emergency and medical services to your situation.

It’s a handy feature for sure, and something to keep in mind when considering the 14 Pro.

You Want to Try Out iOS

With that said, the iPhone 14 Pro comes with features not found on Android devices, and while it also lacks some Android-exclusive perks, you might be curious as to what makes iOS different from the competition – from iMessages, FaceTime, and integration with Apple’s hardware and software ecosystem, the iPhone 14 Pro does have some exclusive tricks up its sleeve. But a major element here will be to determine which features you actually use more frequently and depend on a daily basis.

Finally, if budget isn’t an issue for you, we suppose that one of the best deciding factors in getting this year’s iPhone 14 Pro is, well, simply because you want to. In the grander scheme of things, we’re entitled to our own personal preference of tech products to use, and whether or not you’re making the switch from Android, or choosing to stay loyal to Google’s mobile platform all depends on you – we just hope you’re fully happy with your decision.
