Google Contacts will soon come with Gmail-like filters for easy searching

One of the features of Google’s Gmail platform is the ability to filter emails based on things like sender, date, keywords, and so on. The good news is that if you love those filters and hope to see it in other apps, you’re in luck because it appears that Google is bringing that feature over to Google Contacts.

This is according to a report from Android Police where in a possible update to the app, Google will be adding filter chips to Contacts. Based on the screenshot, some of the filter options include Phone contacts, Email contacts, and even companies.

What this would suggest is that if you’re trying to look for contacts and you can’t quite recall the name, these filters could help. For example if you forgot the name of a company you’re trying to contact, you can use the company filter to show contacts that are associated with  companies, and presumably the same can be done for both phone and email contacts.

This should make it pretty easy and convenient for searching for contacts in the future. Right now, users can only search by name which depending on how large your contact list is, could be a bit tricky. The changes are being tested so if you don’t see it available for you just yet, don’t worry about it. There is no mention of when Google is expected to roll these changes out, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
