When Apple announced a few years ago that they would no longer be including the charger with their iPhones, many made fun of the company, but the mockery did not last long as many other companies started to follow in the company’s footsteps.
Now it looks like Oppo will be joining the list of companies that do not include chargers with their phones. This is according to Billy Zhang, Oppo’s vice president of overseas sales and services, who revealed during a press announcement that moving forwards, future Oppo smartphones will not come with a charger, stating that they have “a plan”. According to Zhang:
“It’s not that easy for consumers to get access to [SuperVOOC chargers], so we have to keep it in the box. However, as we are expanding our business operations, we are looking to taking chargers out of the box and put them in the store so that our users are able to buy the chargers and continue using them even when they upgrade their devices.”
One of the reasons why Apple ditched the charger was due to environmental reasons, or so they claim. By removing the charger, it results in smaller packaging which means that they can ship more iPhones at once, reducing the amount of shipments which reduces carbon emissions.
Those who are more cynical might believe it is nothing more than a cash grab, where Apple coincidentally unveiled faster charging options that customers could buy separately.
