The new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 has landed, delivering Samsung’s 4th generation foldable display technology and the latest high-end chipset from Qualcomm. There’s a lot to like about the new foldable smartphone since Samsung is continuing to refine the overall design while also improving the durability of the foldable display and performance of the device.
So what’s changed on the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4?
As you’d expect, the phone uses the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, which should deliver a huge bump in performance. The phone still offers 12BG of RAM on its base model, but you can now upgrade the internal storage all the way to 1TB. Unlike the Galaxy Z Flip4, battery capacity and charging have not been upgraded on this device, which is a bit disappointing since the 25W charging speed will require more than an hour and 20 minutes to completely charge the battery.
Samsung has upgraded the main camera on the Fold4 with a new 50MP sensor on the back of the phone. This should deliver better shots, especially in low-light conditions. The zoom camera has been upgraded as well to a new 10MP sensor. The internal 4MP selfie camera that’s hidden below the display is the same, but Samsung has changes the pixel matrix to make it less visible than it was on last year’s device.
While the overall design of the phone looks very similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy S Fold4 is a little shorter and a bit wider this time around. The phone is now 3mm shorter and 2mm wider, though the width change only applies when the phone is unfolded. Samsung was able to tweak the hinge design of the smartphone, allowing it to protrude less when folded. The cover and foldable displays are still the same sizes as before, but their aspect ratios are now a little wider.
